The Indian shooting team won in the ISSF World Championship 2023 and won 9 medals in total

Indian shooter Amanpreet Singh achieved a big victory by winning the gold medal in the men’s 25m standard pistol shooting event at the ISSF World Championship 2023 in Baku, Azerbaijan. This exciting moment happened on a Wednesday.
Amanpreet Singh outperformed a group of 50 shooters, scoring an impressive 577 points out of 60 shots. Gunhyeok Lee from the Republic of Korea secured the silver medal with 574 points (including 17 X’s), and Kevin Chapon from France took home the bronze medal with 574 points (including 11 X’s).
Harsh Gupta
Another Indian shooter, Harsh Gupta, came very close to winning a medal, but he finished in fourth place with a score of 573.
Akshay Jain
Akshay Jain scored 545 points and landed in the 41st spot. Collectively, the Indian trio’s combined score of 1695 positioned them at fourth place.
It’s worth noting that the ISSF World Championship 2023 also serves as a qualification event for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. However, it includes competitions in both Olympic and non-Olympic disciplines. The 25m standard pistol shooting event is not part of the Olympic program.
Women Shooters
Although Indian women shooters didn’t manage to secure individual medals in the women’s 25m standard pistol event, their combined efforts resulted in a bronze medal. The team achieved a total score of 1601 points.
The gold medal in the women’s 25m standard pistol event was claimed by the People’s Republic of China, who scored a total of 1690 points. Azerbaijan secured the silver medal with a score of 1629. The competition was tough, with only three teams eligible for medals in this event.
Tiyana, Yashita Shokeen, and Kritika Sharma
In the individual women’s 25m standard pistol shooting event, Tiyana represented India well by securing the 11th position among 14 participants, scoring a total of 538 points. Yashita Shokeen followed closely in 12th place with a score of 536, while Kritika Sharma achieved a score of 527.
Medals won
With these recent achievements, India’s overall performance at the ISSF World Championship 2023 has been exceptional.
The country has won a total of nine medals—five gold medals and four bronze medals.
The ISSF World Championship 2023 is divided into two phases. The finals for Olympic shooting events are set to conclude by August 24, while the competitions for non-Olympic events will continue until August 31. This event is a platform for shooters from around the world to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level of the sport.
