National Sports Day 2023 | Celebration and History | Sports Narrate

National Sports Day is a special day in India that happens on August 29th.

It’s all about remembering Major Dhyan Chand, a super-talented hockey player (LEGEND). He helped India win three Olympic gold medals in the 1900s and 1930s.

We celebrate this day to cheer on our athletes and show them we’re proud of their hard work. It’s also a time to tell everyone that playing sports is good for our physical and mental health. We want people to think about sports as a job too, not just a game.

Goals for India made by Dhyan Chand

Dhyan Chand was so amazing in hockey that he played over 185 matches and scored more than 400 goals for India.

How did he get his name, Dhyan Chand?

He started playing while working as a soldier and even practised at night under the moonlight. That’s why he got the name “Dhyan Chand” which means “Moon”.

This year, in 2023, National Sports Day will be on August 29th, which is a Tuesday. We don’t know the exact theme for this year yet, but we can use #NationalSportsDay on social media to celebrate.

During National Sports Day, we give out special awards to great athletes. These awards are the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, Dronacharya Award, and Arjuna Award, among others.
