Indian Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will be in action at the World Athletics Championship 2023 in Budapest, Hungary.
Neeraj Chopra did well on Friday and qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024. He threw the javelin far, measuring 88.77 meters, and this was the best he’s done this year and one of the top-four throws he’s ever made.
Lausanne
The rule was to throw at least 85.50 meters to get into the Olympics. This was a big deal for him because he hadn’t done a big competition since he won in Lausanne in July. Before the competition, he practised well and felt sure he would get through the first round.
What he said
He didn’t compete much this year (2023) to stay safe from getting hurt before this big event. He said “I had a couple of good throws during my warm-up and felt confident that I would make it past the first round. I have not competed much this year because I wanted to protect myself from injuries and ahead of this event. I’ll give my everything at the final on Sunday,”
After being away for a month due to an injury, Chopra came back and won a big competition in Lausanne, even though the weather was tough. He didn’t do as well as his top 10 performance before, but he still showed he was in charge at this important event in Budapest. Neeraj Chopra, who is 25 years old, had missed three important competitions because he hurt his muscles in June. He had also won another competition called the Diamond League in Doha on May 5, throwing far at 88.67 meters, which was one of his best throws ever.
Diamond League
This superstar Neeraj Chopra from India, who can throw a javelin as far as 89.94 meters, was leading the Diamond League score with 16 points. The next two people, Vadlejch and Weber, had 13 and 12 points. Now, Chopra is looking forward to the final competition of the Diamond League scores in Eugene, USA, on September 16-17

Neeraj Chopra from India wants a gold medal this time after getting silver at last year’s event. Arshad is a star from Pakistan who finished fifth in the qualification and wants to challenge Neeraj. They’ve competed against each other nine times before, and Neeraj has usually been better. They are friendly with each other too. After they got into the finals, Arshad wished Neeraj good luck and said, “Neeraj ke liye best of luck. Neeraj bhai, aap bhi aachha karen, hum bhi accha karen. Aapka naam hai world me, hamara bhi naam aye (Best of luck to Neeraj. Neeraj brother, you also do well, and I hope I also do well. You have a name in the world. I hope I also get a name in the world),” Both Neeraj and Arshad did great in their groups in the Friday rounds.
