Dutee chand diagnosed with testicular cancer

Dutee Chand is an Asian Games medalist, who notched silver in 100m and 200m women’s competitions in the 2018 edition of the event. She is also known as India’s fastest woman, who holds the national 100m record of 11.17 seconds, She recorded in 2021 in Indian Grand Prix 4 in Patiala.

Dutee Chand received Mail

Recently she received mail that she had been banned for 4 years. In Indian sports, no other athlete got banned for 4 years. Dutee ‘A’ sample (urine) was taken on December 5 in Bhubaneshwar and she was informed about her adverse analytical finding (AAF) on January 3.

“I got terrified and nervous, wondering what was happening to my life,” said Chand to PTI. Dr Sudeep Satpathy, a professor at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Bhubaneswar, diagnosed her. Where she found out she had testicular cancer. Her doctor advised her to stop doing sports when she was diagnosed with Stage 1 cancer in November 2021.

This happened after Chand didn’t do well in the Tokyo Olympics races for women’s 100m and 200m. She got banned for four years for doping.

Groin pain in 2021:

She said “When I was competing in the National Inter-State Championships before the Tokyo Olympics, my groin area hurt a lot. I talked to some doctors but the pain didn’t go away. I went to the Olympics in July-August 2021 and didn’t perform well,”

Sudeep Satpathy Advised:

“After I came back from the Olympics, the pain kept getting worse. I did an ultrasound in November 2021, but nothing showed up. Then I got an MRI and the doctor Dr. Sudeep Satpathy. He said I had the start of level 1 testicular cancer. Dr Sudeep said I had to stop doing sports or it would get worse, I have a hormone imbalance with testosterone, so that might be related. The groin pain was getting worse slowly. Everyone said it was just groin pain, but the doctor said it could be cancer if the pain didn’t stop.”

Dr Sudeep Satpathy

Dutee Chand hasn’t been tested for cancer again since 2021. She mentioned the pain went away after she took medicine that was advised by a physiotherapist for 15-20 days after the first diagnosis.

The Reason for Ban on Dutee Chand:

“The doctor Sudeep Satpathy said it was a level 1 cancer. I had a lot of pain then. But after taking medicine for 15-20 days, the pain got better, I started recovering. I didn’t do any more medical tests because I felt fine, not much pain. Then I gave a sample to NADA (National Anti-Doping Agency) and that’s when I got the positive doping result,”

What Lawyer Says:

The lawyer Partha Goswami is fighting for Dutee Chand against NADA, in which he said he checked her mail and appealed for the same. Even he said that this is a clear case where she is not guilty of any doping substance.

Also, this is inappropriate to give 4 years of ban on athletes in such cases, where the test was out of competition that she had for the recovery purpose. Even though she performed many times nationally and internationally where the tests were done weekly and found nothing, the situation now is different.

She always asked the experts before any medications and tests. He will explain how the substance that is banned got into her body, which is not intentional.

Who is Guilty: Dr Sudeep Satpathy or anyone else?

The lawyer said Partha Goswami said Anti-doping procedures are different from the court proceedings. It’s only noticed for how long the athlete will get banned. As Lawyer added: “We can’t disclose anything without any proof and will appeal for it in the court first.”
